The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.
EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe including the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted individuals that were at the heart of efforts to enact laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
